they got me: Athletic Greens AG1 replaced my counter of capsules

This past year has been quite a journey with my health, especially having to stick to a soft foods and liquid diet for my widdle jaw issue. Lacking my usual chew-and thus nutrition-heavy nice cream/shake/fruit galore/salad dietary pattern and feeling like I was missing out on my usual peak nutrition, I tried out this company to see if it really would replace a bunch of the multivitamin and other supplements I’d take, and — not gonna lie— their sleek branding speaks to me.

One day at Yoga in Equinox, I was talking to the instructor about PRI (postural restoration) techniques and a woman joined in the conversation. She was holding an AG1 bottle full of water, and since I was considering it I asked her experience with it (having only previously seen sponsored posts and videos on YouTube and whatnot - shoutout to Joe Lee). She said she loveeeed it and that it’s completely replaced her morning coffee. That combined with my own testimony (and soapbox, honestly) of just how ENERGIZING greens are, I was sold on trying at least a month of it. Now I know I won’t go back, and here’s why.

greens + the vegan essentials

AG1 is packed with 75 high-quality ingredients, and I’ve come to rely on it for my daily nutritional needs. As I mentioned lately I’ve been chewing less (especially my beloved, energizing, fat-blocking [via thylakoids] greens). Here’s a breakdown of some key components of the athletic greens ag1 pow I appreciated some of the supplements I now don’t even have to purchase separately (literally all these were on my counter):

  • vitamins and minerals:

    • vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin): Essential for energy production and nervous system health. A bacteria from the dirt that’s supplemented in livestock so if you’re not drinking cow titty juice cause you’re a baby cow, you’d probably be best to supplement it, too.

    • vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid): Supports the immune system and acts as a powerful antioxidant. Also great on the face. It’s essential for us, unlike carnivores, and found in soo many types of fruit. We used to produce all we need but our high-vitamin-c, frugivore diet as we evolved let our body know “ehhh you can cool it on the vitamin C production; there’s lots from your diet” and c’est la vie!

    • vitamin E (D-Alpha Tocopheryl Succinate): Protects cells from oxidative stress.

    • magnesium (Citrate and Glycinate): Important for muscle function and energy production. Used to supplement it for ‘calmness’

    • zinc (Citrate): Crucial for immune function and DNA synthesis. I used to supplement this for my acne.

    • chromium (Nicotinate Glycinate Chelate): Helps regulate blood sugar levels.

  • whole food-sourced superfoods:

    • spirulina: A blue-green algae rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals.

    • chlorella: Another algae that helps detoxify the body and supports immune function. Yes, detoxify is a real word and has real benefits - the kidneys can’t do it all, ya know.

    • wheatgrass: Known for its high chlorophyll content, it’s great for detoxification and alkalizing the body. I also add it to my matcha lattes!

  • probiotics and digestive enzymes:

    • aactobacillus acidophilus: Supports gut health by maintaining a healthy balance of bacteria.

    • bifidobacterium bifidum: Aids in digestion and enhances immune function.

    • bromelain and papain: Natural enzymes that help break down proteins for better digestion (these are from pineapple and papaya, methinks).

  • adaptogens:

    • ashwagandha: An adaptogenic herb that helps the body manage stress and improve cognitive function. Really nice

    • rhodiola rosea: Known for enhancing mental performance and reducing fatigue. My go-to recommendation, along with Vitex and ashwaghanda for stress-reduction. The fact they’re in this daily blend is amazinggg.

This combination means you’re getting a comprehensive nutritional boost in one simple shake. The greens in AG1 give me a noticeable energy lift (I like mine in the morning or half scoops at morning at 3pm), and the ease of mixing a quick drink fits perfectly into my routine.

great for liquid fasts

If you’re into juice or the occasional reset of a liquid fast, AG1 is perfect. It fits seamlessly into any fasting routine, providing essential nutrients without interrupting the fast. Parasite cleansing when you’re transiting from an animal-based diet is especially helpful and I feel like AG1 would give you the nutrition to get through it all on liquids only.

practical and stylish

The AG1 bottle is pretty cool. I thought it was glass at first, but it’s actually made of Tritan plastic. It fits in my bike bottle cage too which is nice. This makes it durable and ideal for carrying around, whether I’m at the gym, yoga studio, or hiking. The heavy top design keeps it from tipping over easily, and it’s sparked some great conversations.

travel-friendly and sealed fresh

AG1 also comes in handy travel packs, perfect for sharing with friends or taking on the go. It comes with a sleek metal tin and I keep mine in the fridge to maintain its freshness. My link includes a travel kit and a year’s supply of vegan K2 and D3, which is a fantastic bonus.

the importance of K2 and D3

Vitamin D3 is essential, especially for those of us in Canada who don’t get enough sun. The combination of K2 and D3 ensures proper calcium absorption and supports overall wellness. Plus, AG1 uses a vegan D3, which is great because it's not derived from sheep’s wool- and that’s something that, as a vegan, I lichen.

the truth about lanolin harvesting

Lanolin, the traditional source of Vitamin D3, is derived from sheep's wool. The process involves shearing the sheep, which can be stressful and harmful to the animals. Sheep are bred to produce an excessive amount of wool, making them dependent on human intervention for shearing. This shearing process can be rough, leading to cuts and injuries.

After shearing, the wool is cleaned and scoured to extract the lanolin. This involves harsh chemicals and industrial processes that can be quite brutal. The sheep endure a lot of stress and discomfort and not all of them make it - which is commonpractice when exploiting creatures as commodities before assessing if we’d like to be treated with the same respect. More and more companies are switching to D3 bu there’s still a huge lag. That’s why it’s amazing that AG1 uses a plant-based D3 is a much kinder option. AG1’s D3 is likely derived from lichen, a sustainable and ethical alternative that fits with our biophilic values.

ethical + effective

AG1 fits perfectly with my values – it’s vegan, ethical, and effective. It’s not just about taking a supplement; it’s about living a lifestyle that supports overall wellness in the simplest, most efficient way. Knowing that I'm nourishing my body with quality ingredients while staying true to my principles feels goooood and helps me stick to a daily wellness ritual.

If you’re looking to streamline your nutrition and support your wellness journey, give AG1 a try. It’s been a big help for me, and I think you’ll find it useful too. The welcome kit pictured (tin, scoop, bottle, travel packs, and year supply of D3 and K2) is free with my code, and again, I appreciate how you can adjust your subscription frequency to suite whatever works for you if not monthly (though you’ll love it so much you’re gonna wanna keep at it - trust me).

Nature note: these links help me keep creating, at no extra cost to you. Appreciate the support :)
